Florida-Friendly Landscaping
Florida-Friendly Landscaping is a UF/IFAS program with nine principles: right plant, water efficiently, fertilize appropriately, mulch, attract wildlife, manage yard pests responsibly, recycle, reduce stormwater, and protect the waterfront. A lady-beetle yard is the wildlife and pest-management principles done in public.

Read them on ffl.ifas.ufl.edu. This page does not reprint the handbook. The short field version: plant what lives here, water on purpose, mulch the soil, and treat a pest as a diagnosis, not a Saturday chore.
- Match plant to sun, soil, and flood.
- Water at the root, in the morning, when the plant needs it.
- Mulch, keep it off stems, replenish.
- Identify the insect before any product comes out.
Wildlife in a city lot
Attracting wildlife here means pollen, water, and cover for insects, lizards, and birds — not a feeding station that draws rats. Lady beetles are the insect layer of that principle.
Pests without a broadcast
Responsible pest management is IPM: identify, tolerate a threshold, use cultural tools, then the least toxic product on the labeled pest. Lady beetles are the cultural tool walking the stem.
Questions
Is Florida-Friendly a brand of mulch?
It is a UF/IFAS landscape program. Any mulch that is applied to the principle (and kept off the trunk) can fit.
